Most people donate to charities and hope it goes to good use. Then there’s Alice Rosenwald, who spent 20 years reading about, attending conferences on, and tracking the way various organizations spent her money before deciding where to put the bulk of it. As co-chair of American Securities Holdings, a merchant and investment bank that invests in private and public companies, she is used to putting serious thought into any potential venture. “I want to get the biggest bang for my buck,” Rosenwald says of her philanthropic outlay, before speaking emphatically about Children’s Rights, a charitable organization that aims to stop child abuse. “I want to stop this from happening”, she says, “Not fix it after it happens.”
