At the forefront of the flood of luxury construction in Southern Florida is Argentinean-born entrepreneur Jorge M. Perez whose company, The Related Group, has helped reshape chunks of the state’s skylines. One of the largest developers of multi-family residences in the United States, The Related Group has built more than 55,000 residential units since its founding 27 years ago. Perez says his passion for urban development was ignited when he traveled after college and he concluded that people should be able to work and shop close to where they lived—ideals that inspired many of his later condo projects. With so many projects happening simultaneously, Perez remains the guiding light but has large teams dealing with the details of construction. “I am totally convinced that the moment we stop being innovative, we die as a company. So the fear of failure drives me to try to be on the cutting edge so that we are the people that are providing the latest in technology and in living to the people that we serve,” states Perez. “I have to reinvent myself every day."
