Architect Daniel Libeskind is known the world over for his multidisciplinary approach to urban design and the often-eclectic look his projects take on. Libeskind’s projects range from museums to universities, conference centers to residential high-rises, and sometimes even private homes. Five years ago Studio Daniel Libeskind was chosen over 11 international firms for the Royal Ontario Museum project in Toronto, and what began as a simple sketch on a napkin has now become one of the most prominent and controversial pieces of the Toronto skyline, the Michael Lee-Chin Crystal. Libeskind is well known for using angles in his designs, and the Crystal, with its five crystal-shaped structures, proved to be a challenging construction project, but has changed the way people view architecture in the city. Up next for Libeskind in Toronto: a renovation and addition to the former Hummingbird Center; and internationally, Studio Daniel Libeskind continues to break new ground in San Francisco, Israel, and Singapore (amongst many other spots) with designs as diverse as the places they will call home.
