David Saltzman loves what he does, but as Executive Director of the Robin Hood Foundation, he hopes that some day soon he’ll be out of a job. The Robin Hood Foundation, established in 1988 by a group of friends and colleagues, has grown to become one of the largest poverty-fighting charities in New York. In it’s first year the foundation distributed $52,000 in grants; this year the number is expected to reach $135 million. The Foundation, like Saltzman himself, remains below the radar —he says focusing on the people they help is their top priority, and it has lead to their enormous success. Robin Hood spends every penny that comes in on their programs. Says Saltzman, “There are 1.5 million of our friends and neighbors who are living in poverty in New York City. Why wait for a rainy day when it’s pouring out?”.
